Sportswear ranks somewhere alongside kitchen towels and cotton buds on my shopping list of Things I Don’t Like to Spend Money On, mainly because they’re going to get sullied pretty quick and, dare I say it, are boring to buy? However, with Olympic fever well and truly under way, sportswear has been cast in a whole new light, bathing in the glory of gold medals and designer collaborations (have you seen those snazzy Stella McCartney for Adidas Team GB uniforms?) Suddenly, gym shorts and sports bras are catching my eye and not just because they remind me that dividing my gym membership fees by the number of times I actually go per month renders each visit roughly worth the price of a ticket to the 100m final. All of which means that I was rather excited to finally drop by the aptly-timed H&M sports pop up in Covent Garden, if only to inspire me to call my personal trainer again.
As well as sportily-clad mannequins in energetic poses the pop up houses a vaulting horse and some truly covetable clothing and accessories for every conceivable sporting need, whether a jog at the gym (adorable shorts and loose-fitting vest top) or a spot of yoga (sleek leggings and yoga mats), all at great price points. By the way, there’s also a menswear section, so even if the closest you get to sport is recurring nightmares about PE lessons it’s totally worth hanging around in case a hot athlete or two wanders in.
H&M Sport is open now at two locations: St Martin’s Courtyard, Covent Garden and Westfield Stratford
