Happy Tea Friends: Party Hard

Last Sunday I attended an afternoon tea party to celebrate a family birthday. The lounge was turned into the most scrumptious tea room, complete with pink tablecloths, napkins and chairs, quaintly mismatched china and topped off with gorgeous bouquets of flowers. The tea, which was catered by Georgie’s, included delicious finger sandwiches, miniature scones and charming bite-sized cakes (including some very Alice in Wonderland-looking cakes decorated like playing cards). I was seated on the ‘kids’ table (despite the average age of the table being about 25, ours will always be designated the ‘kids’ table at family occasions) so I decided to act the part and created a face out of scones, using jam to draw a pair of Lulu Guinness-inspired lips, whilst recalling a scene from The Addams Family in which Morticia admonishes Wednesday, “Play with your food, darling.” The birthday cake, which was beautifully decorated like a basket of flowers in keeping with the floral theme, was the er, icing on the cake!
