Exciting news has emerged from the House of Mouse today! Minnie Mouse, the First Lady of Disney, will be gracing London Fashion Week with her presence this September as a host of British designers pay tribute to her inimitable style. Giles Deacon, Lulu Guinness and Richard Nicoll are amongst the designers who will create Minnie-inspired pieces as part of the ‘Minnie Mouse Must Haves’ collaboration, which will be exhibited at LFW before being auctioned on eBay in aid of charity. Disney released a statement saying, “Minnie Mouse’s iconic silhouette, signature bows and polka dots always remain in style, which is why she is as relevant today as the day she first appeared on the fashion scene. London Fashion Week is the perfect stage for Disney, one of the world’s largest apparel brands, to put a spotlight on Minnie Mouse.”
This isn’t Minnie’s first foray into fashion. Last September Mawi jewelry launched a ‘Minnie Mawi’ line and earlier this year nail polish brand OPI released a ‘Vintage Minnie Mouse’ collection (below), which included a shade entitled ‘I’m All Ears”. There are also rumours of more beauty collaborations to come following Minnie’s LFW show (please let one of them be MAC!). Nor is Minerva Mouse (to give her her full name) the only Disney character to flex her fashion muscles. Last October Minnie’s other half, Mickey, collaborated with luxury jeweler Chopard on a Mickey-inspired, diamond-encrusted collection featuring watches, jewelry and stationary with prices starting at a not insubstantial €30,000. To quote the big cheese himself, “Oh boy!In fact, with Minnie and Mickey fast emerging as the Posh and Becks of the animation world, the upcoming release of the Disney Villains Designer Dolls and brands falling over themselves to team up with Muppets star Miss Piggy, it looks like soon the only Fashion Week fixture worth attending will be Disney World, Florida.
