The Cinderella Glass Slipper Collection: DSW x Disney

US footwear retailer DSW has teamed up with Disney to release a ‘Glass Slipper’ collection in honour of the upcoming re-release of Cinderella. If you’re having déjà vu right about now it’s because we’ve already had a Cinderella shoe from master cobbler Christian Louboutin and a Cinderella flip flop from Havaianas (although ‘Cinderella flip flop’ doesn’t have the quite the same elegant ring to it as ‘glass slipper’).Sadly, as with Louboutin’s creation, none of the DSW shoes are made from glass (or even perspex) but instead use crystal, satin and tulle overlays to give them a fairytale feel aimed at the eveningwear and bridal market (perfect to go with a Disney wedding dress, if you’re that way inclined). But where a pair of Louboutins will cost you upwards of $500, the DSW collection, which features five styles in a variety of colours inspired by the film (from the blue of Cindy’s ballgown to the eggplant-coloured French Rococo wallpaper), ranges only from $59.95 – $89.95, meaning you could buy the entire lot for the price of one Louboutin shoe.Whilst at first glance the collection looks a bit fussy for my liking (too much diamante), I’m looking forward to taking a closer look when it’s released at the stroke of midnight on 1st October. And given each shoe features ‘an embossed carriage logo and a signature blue jewel on the sole’ I’ll probably cave in and buy a pair. After all, who wouldn’t want to walk a mile in Cinderella’s shoes?
